TIRES
Extend the life of tires by maintaining proper air pressure, rotating regularly, and checking treads. Consider using retreaded tires. Dispose of used tires properly.

MOTOR OIL
In New York City, it is illegal to discard used motor oil in the trash, on the ground, or into sewers. Change the oil at the interval recommended in the vehicle manual, and not before. Recycle used oil.

ANTIFREEZE
Antifreeze is a toxic substance. Reduce use by changing less frequently. Choose less-toxic formulas, and dispose of properly.

DRUMS
Do not throw empty drums and containers in the trash. Establish a contract with a drum reconditioning service that will collect and repair the drums for reuse. You can recycle metal drums through NYC’s recycling program. Contact a private recycler to recycle plastic drums.

LEAD-ACID BATTERIES
Because lead-acid car batteries contain toxic substances, it is illegal to throw them away. Recycle or return them to the supplier. Consider using sealed gel-cell batteries instead.
