Items That Can Be Accepted 

  • compact fluorescent bulbs (most commonly collected)
  • circular and u-shaped fluorescent lamps
  • fluorescent tubes

NY State Mercury-Added Consumer Product Law
NY State ECL, Article 27, Title 21 

Businesses Affected:

Retail stores that sell fluorescent bulbs.

Examples of retailers choosing to participate include: Ikea, Home Depot, Lowes, among others.

How To Comply

1.    

Accept at no cost any used, unbroken fluorescent bulb for recycling using an appropriate collection bin.

2.    

Ensure bulbs collected are intact until the container is sealed.

3.     Ensure bulbs are recycled at a permitted facility.
4.      

Display a sign indicating that intact fluorescent bulbs are accepted for recycling. For information about free images and signs visit business take-back signs.
