Reuse Tips for Furniture

If you able to transport it yourself, many organizations throughout NYC are happy to accept donations of furniture.

Unfortunately, there are not many organizations that offer pick-up services from residences because it is costly. Of those organizations that may offer this service, please be aware that they do not always offer it, and when they do, they only pick-up large quantities of high quality goods.

Please also note that the NY State Bedding Law restricts both the refurbishment and the resale of used mattresses and boxsprings, mostly for health and bedbug reasons. Mattresses leaving NYCWasteLess must be wrapped in plastic and placed on the curb with regular bulk trash.

For other items, visit the NYC Stuff Exchange leaving NYCWasteLess to find a place to sell or donate used furniture in good condition. Be sure to look for the green truck icon indicating that they may pick up goods from your home.

If you cannot find a donation outlet for your furniture through NYC Stuff Exchange, try using an online materials exchange to find another recipient.

For office furniture, take advantage of an online business materials exchanges targeted directly to recipients in the commercial, professional, and industrial sector.

If you cannot find a second home for your furniture, or if your items are worn or damaged, they can be placed at the curb as bulk. If predominantly metal or rigid plastic, recycled along with other bulk items. If predominantly wood, or fabric, place it out with bulk refuse.
