Put your working appliance up for grabs, or sell it, on an online materials exchange.

If you cannot find a second home for your appliance, visit residential disposal guidelines to find out how to recycle or discard them. If predominantly metal or rigid plastic, recycle as a bulky item. If predominantly something other than metal or rigid plastic, place it out with bulk refuse. For appliances with coolants (refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers) you must schedule an appointment with DSNY to have CFC/Freon removed .
