Electronic equipment other than rechargeable batteries, cell phones, and equipment covered under state law, such as loose cables, cameras, gps devices, and microwaves are not specifically covered under any local or state regulations. Therefore, residents can discard these items in the regular trash. Manufacturers, retailers, and service providers are not required to offer free takeback programs. However, in addition to discarding these items in the trash, there may still be alternatives to disposal. Sell, donate, or exchange:
standard takeback programs that go above and beyond the law
voluntary takeback programs for non-covered electronics
third-party recyclers
