Businesses, nonprofits, institutions, and City Agencies must follow a variety of state and federal disposal guidelines that cover commercial generators of waste.

In addition to designated recyclables, the following items may not be discarded with commercial trash:

• dental mercury
• electronic items
• fluorescent bulbs
• certain lighting ballasts
• hazardous waste 
• medical waste
• rechargeable batteries 
• universal waste
