Summary: Local Law 17 of 2008
establishes NYC's Office of Long Term Planning and Sustainability, and directs the City to provide and regularly update a long term sustainability plan that encompasses issues of housing, open space, brownfields, transportation, water quality and infrastructure, air quality, energy, and climate change. The law requires the creation of track-able sustainability indicators achievable by 2030, and annual reporting on progress. Environmental review duties shift from the Office of Environmental Coordination to the Mayor's Office of Operations.
