Law: NYC Administrative Code leaving NYCWasteLess (Title 6, Chapter 3, Subchapter 6: Cleaning Products)

Summary: The Green Our Cleaning Act, enacted as Local Law 123 of 2005 leaving NYCWasteLess requires the procurement and use of green cleaning products by the City to the extent practicable as determined through a pilot program to study the feasibility of using green cleaning products in city facilities. The law requires the Director of Environmental Purchasing to maintain and update a list of green cleaning products approved for purchase by City agencies.

This law is one of a series of environmentally preferable purchasing laws that cover goods and construction products.

History: This law was preceded by and incorporates the elements of previous laws and waste prevention and efficient materials management directives that promote the use and purchasing of green cleaning products.
