Law: NYC Administrative Code leaving NYCWasteLess (Title 24, Chapter 1, Section 24-146.1: Asbestos Work)

Rules: Rules of the City of New York leaving NYCWasteLess (Title 15, Chapter 1: Asbestos Control Program)

Summary: NYC's asbestos abatment law, originally established by Local Law 76 of 1985, mandates removal of asbestos from buildings facing renovation or demolition, and that workers handling asbestos receive appropriate training. The Rules of the NYC Asbestos Control Program are under the authority of the NYC Dept of Environmental Protection leaving NYCWasteLess in consultation with the NYC Dept of Buildings leaving NYCWasteLess and the NYC Fire Dept leaving NYCWasteLess.

Amendments: Local Law 37 of 2009 leaving NYCWasteLess adds asbestos abatement project permitting requirements and specifications for temporary structures for abatement activities. Local Law 38 of 2009 leaving NYCWasteLess requires updates to the rules regarding egress at abatement sites.
