The Fresh Kills Compost Site receives leaf and yard waste from landscapers registered with the DSNY-BWPRR Compost Site Permit Program and is also approved by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets to accept yard waste materials from Asian Long-Horned Beetle quarantine areas.
Any landscaper or tree service company can apply for a DSNY/BWPRR Compost Site Permit to discard yard waste and purchase finished compost. The Permit issued to each permit holder is a plastic laminated wallet sized card with the account and permit numbers printed on the face of each card.
Companies registered with the DSNY/BWPRR Compost Site Permit Program will receive one card for each truck. Permit holders can use the same card to deliver yard waste or buy compost. The vehicle-specific permit card must be presented to the Fresh Kills scale attendant every time the truck arrives to discard yard waste or purchase compost.
Permit holders must use a major credit card or a bank debit card to pay for each transaction.
