NYC - recycle more, waste less New York City Recycles NYC Department of Sanitation
Compost & Mulch Distribution

After turning yard waste and fallen trees into compost or mulch at Sanitation Compost Sites, DSNY's Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling (BWPRR) makes it available to city agencies and nonprofits for use in gardening, soil mitigation, street tree stewardship, or habitat improvement projects.

DSNY Compost & Mulch Application

DSNY’s spring 2014 compost and mulch application period has closed. This spring, DSNY distributed 55,000 bags (over 2 million pounds!) of locally-produced compost and mulch to public greening initiatives in all five boroughs of New York City.

Click here to see a list of all the sites that received DSNY compost, mulch, and potting soil over the last year!

A new compost and mulch application will be posted in the late fall! Please check back then to request compost or mulch for your street tree, park, community garden, or other public greening initiative
