Compost & Mulch Distribution

After turning yard waste and fallen trees into compost or mulch at outdoor composting sites, DSNY makes it available to city agencies and nonprofits for use in gardening, soil mitigation, street tree stewardship, or habitat improvement projects.

DSNY Compost & Mulch Application

In spring 2014, DSNY distributed locally-produced compost and mulch to public greening initiatives in all five boroughs of New York City.

The compost site where the majority of the compost and mulch is produced is scheduled for the repair of its surface pad, where all of the windrow composting takes place. As a result, during these repairs, the operating surface will be seriously curtailed. Compost and mulch distribution during this time will be suspended. Please check back again in April 2015.
