Warranties

Compare warranties before you buy your new appliance or computer. A longer warranty period indicates a manufacturer’s confidence in its product. Although no one likes to think about repairing a purchase that hasn’t even been paid for yet, consider the ease of repair as part of your purchasing decision.

Visit resources to learn more about comparing warranties and other purchasing decisions.

Deliveries, upgrades, and repairs

Here are some ways to cut down on waste:

See if your new large appliance can be delivered in a reusable shipping container or padded blanket. The delivery staff can take back the padding and blanket and reuse it to make another delivery.

Ask if the manufacturer has a “take back”program for their product at the end of its useful life.

Investigate local repair services for the make and model of the product you are considering buying.

Check if the product can be easily upgraded.

ALSO SEE take it back nyc! for a list of take-back programs for various product categories, new homes for old stuff for where to donate, buy, or sell used items.
