Bottles and Cans

There are a number of ways to divert bottles and cans from your Agency’s waste stream:

Purchase and serve fountain beverages instead of beverages in cans and bottles.

Use reusable canisters for fountain beverages instead of bag-in-box systems to reduce the quantity of material needing disposal.

Redeem deposit bottles and cans. If you have a vending machine, it is the dealer’s responsibility to redeem the deposit on beverage containers. See resources for more information on the how the “bottle bill” works.

Purchase products in containers that are recyclable in NYC.

Purchase food items and cleaning supplies in bulk to reduce the amount of packaging waste. Purchase concentrated cleaners, and mix concentrates with water in reusable bottles.
