Cultural Corners
Eight million people. Five boroughs. Every culture on earth. New York City has always been a melting pot of ideas, peoples and ethnicities. Cultural Corners takes a fresh look at New York City and its citizens as they express themselves in new and exciting ways. Music, dance, poetry, theatre, discussions and much more are just around the corner on Cultural Corners.

Cultural Corners also highlights free summer concerts. Tune in for performances by Sonic Youth, The Indigo Girls, Dan Bern and more. Produced in conjunction with the New York City Parks Department, this season is sure make viewers long for those warm summer days in the City. Only on NYC TV 74.

Sonic Youth
A product of New York's 1980s "No Wave" music, Sonic Youth has been a staple music maker and noise maker in the indie music scene for about two decades.

Amy Ray and Emily Saliers make up the acoustic duet known as the Indigo Girls. Their lyrics, harmonies and guitar skills have won them a dedicated following in the world of folk music. They perform at Central Park SummerStage the night of the Blackout.

Messenger Records recording artist Dan Bern is one of contemporary music's greatest storytellers. In the summer of 2003, Dan performs songs from his latest album, Fleeting Days, at the South Street Seaport to a huge crowd of loyal fans.

Brazilian Day
NYC TV partnered with Brazilian television giant Globo International for this day-long spectacle along Sixth Avenue. See some of Brazil's biggest stars: Ivete Sangalo, Daniel, Angelica, and many others as they samba, sing and celebrate Brazil.

Cordero and Las Vegas Basement
The Brooklyn-based band Cordero is known for their latin-infused indie rock. They play Central Park's SummerStage as the Indigo Girls' opening act on the night of the Blackout.
Also, the Irish indie band, Las Vegas Basement, opens for Luna at South Street Seaport.

Bowling Green
The MTA Arts for Transit program invented Music Under New York to encourage the use of public transportation by presenting the arts in subways. All summer long the program has daily lunchtime concerts in Bowling Green Park. This concert features Brazilian Bossa Nova singer and guitarist, Camila Benson.

Downtown Dance Festival
The Downtown Dance Festival is an annual gathering of dance companies that the Battery Dance Company started in 1982. The festival has a unique mix of professional dancers and choreographers, as well as young dancers, all presenting original works in a free public forum.

Union Square
Union Square Park's Center Lawn stages a contemporary dance performance by Lori Belilove & Company. This all-female dance group is well known for presenting the repertoire of modern dance icon Isadora Duncan.

Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration
Rainbow colored silk banners, luminous lotus flowers, a frolicking lion.  All these depict the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Lion, celebrated in dance by the Chinese Folk Dance Company at the World Financial Center Winter Garden.

Julliard Jazz Fest
Through the collaboration of the Julliard School and Jazz at Lincoln Center, Julliard Jazz was born. The ensemble performs throughout the year in New York and other cities.
