JP Morgan, John Jacob Astor, John D Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt…these name are synonymous with some of the great institutions of this nation, and the legacies of these captains of industry linger on in the form some of the most well known places in New York City such as Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center, Astor Place and the Morgan Library.  But how did these giants of the gilded age amass their fortunes and turn their ideas into gold?  Often labeled as “Robber Barons” for their unscrupulous means and ways, these men were instrumental in the building of New York City.
