This is what Antique Roadshow would be like if it only focused on music memorabilia and if a fair amount of the statements in the show were largely false. At the WFMU Record Fair, our reliable panel of appraisers affixes a monetary value to items ranging from an empty Judas Priest record to a dancing James Brown doll. Episode 64: Disability Mentoring Day
To celebrate Disability Mentoring Day, the annual event that helps people with disabilities explore career opportunities, we hand the show over to one of its participants, Wayne Thomas, who takes us behind the scenes of the New York City music industry. In this episode, Wayne interviews people at the local record label DFA and at the online music store Insound.com, and a music journalist from Time Out New York. Episode 63: CMJ Music Marathon 2006
This episode was an experiment to see how many delicious indie nuggets we could fit into one hour of television. The answer is a lot. The loveable wannabe hip-hop rapper MC Steinberg takes us through this year’s CMJ Music Marathon and interviews The Shins, The Rapture, Hot Chip, Presets, Fields, Forward Russia!, Girl Talk, Mobius Band,  The Knife and Tokyo Police Club. Episode 62: Marc’s Super Sweet Bar-Mitzvah
Marc is about to become a man and he’s not going to let anyone stop him from celebrating it in style. In this episode, we follow the planning & execution of his bar-mitzvah disco. This summer, New York Noise teamed up with the East River Music Project concert series for a free outdoor show with performances by Saturday Looks Good To Me, Mobius Band, Human Television and Meneguar. This episode also follows the travails of Fallen Angel Crying who tries to finagle the bagel his way onto the stage. Episode 53: Post-Punk Haircuts
This episode of New York Noise is your one-off chance to travel back in time to catch some classic and hard-to-find post-punk videos.  But wait, theres more -  Simon Reynolds, author of the new book “Rip It Up and Start Again: a history of post-punk” hosts the show while some nice kids get post-punk haircuts at Dr. Mikes barber shop on Church St. in Manhattan. Episode 51: Adam Green Variety Hour
Hey Kids! It’s time for the Adam Green Variety Hour. NYC’s anti-folk poster boy Adam Green takes over the show with a cast of friends. Together they join in musical harmony and share in a joyous celebration of the Jewish holiday of Purim, and do other things you couldn’t possibly understand. You’ll also be titillated with three music videos by Adam, including his new video for “Nat King Cole,” plus videos by Jenny Lewis, Rogue Wave, Jeffrey Lewis, Kimya Dawson, Animal Collective, The Strokes, Langhorne Slim, Mr. Scruff, Human Television, and The Knife.

Episode 50: Accordion Party
At an early age, German-born Walter Kuhr decided he wanted to play an instrument, “preferably one bigger than the recorder or triangle,” which marked the beginning of his rise towards becoming the Accordion King of New York City.  Today Walter talks all things accordion: running the Main Squeeze Accordion shop on Essex Street and conducting the Main Squeeze Orchestra, NYC’s only all-female accordion orchestra. Susan Hwang of the Orchestra joins Walter to gossip about the other girls. Episode 47: The Hold Steady at The Variety Boys & Girls Club
NYC group The Hold Steady take their message to the streets and perform for a variety of boys & girls in Queens at The Variety Club Boys & Girls Club of Queens. The kids also have a chance to interview the band and ask them questions about what its like to be musicians, and if they live in mansions. Radcliffe, fake music editors-in-chief of the very best website in the world- pitchforkmedia.com - to help you out. They look a lot like the sexy NYC comedians Aziz Ansari & Rob Huebel, but don’t be fooled. Thadius & Nigel teach us the ins & outs of indierock and introduce us to some hot new bands, like an obscure group called “Cold Play.” Remember, you heard it here first! Episode 44: WFMU Record Fair
We’re certainly not going to Kentucky, but we are in fact going to the fair. The WFMU Record Fair that is! WFMU music & programming director Brian Turner takes us around New York City’s largest annual record fair. Behold WFMU radio personalities exposed on camera—DJ Trouble, OCDJ, the inimitable Small Change, Mac of Antique Phonograph, and other special cameo appearances. And the best part- Brian Turner shares some selections from his music video collection, including rare videos by Afrirampo, Lightning Bolt, The Fall, Serge Gainsbourg, Captain Beefheart, Devo, Deerhoof and more! Episode 43: Oneida
Its awesome when people are awesome, and the peoples of Oneida are indubitably awesome. Baby Jane and Kid Millions of the Brooklyn trio Oneida play most delightful hosts to New York Noise from their studio in Williamsburg. They discuss the NYC music scene and the effects being in a band has had on their lives, and give us a blinged out tour of their studio. If that’s not enough Oneida to get you excited, there’s also a rocking and wholly entrancing 8+ minute performance of Oneida, recorded by Joly of punkcast.com at the East River Music Project (ermp.org) concert this past summer. Episode 42: Bishop Allen
On a beautiful end-of-summer day, Brooklyn’s delightful rock quartet Bishop Allen pack their guitars and ketchup and walk up the death trap that is the ladder that leads to the rooftop upon which a BBQ is to be held. At said BBQ, Bishop Allen do BBQ things, as well as play one of their new songs for us. This episode features a cameo and guest directing duties by Andrew Bujalski, director of “Funny Ha Ha,” one of the most charming indie films to come out recently. Episode 41: Eugene Mirman & Langhorne Slim
I’m not one to pick favorites, but this may very well be the best episode of New York Noise yet! Take one part comedian Eugene Mirman, one part music man Langhorne Slim, add in some fried scallops, cake displays, and a giant Pikachu, and you have yourself some A++ television. Episode 40: Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp For Girls
This summer marked the first Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls in New York City. For one week, 75 girls ages 8-18 gathered to have fun and learn how to make music. In this episode, the organizers talk about the mission and logistics of the camp. You can catch clips of the girls at their final performance, plus candid confessions from them on the lunchroom floor about the drama that comes with being rock n roll superstars. Episode 39: Beggars Group 10th Anniversary in NYC Party
Dave Martin, employee extraordinaire of Beggars Group, and Carl Newman of the New Pornographers host this episode from the Beggars Group 10th Anniversary in New York Party. From this star-studded event we feature cameos by Martin Mills, Fred Armisen, Dead Meadow, Britta Phillips & Dean Wareham, Ben Goldberg, and other D-listers. Episode 38: Klaus Nomi
This episode we focus on Klaus Nomi, the enigmatic figure on the New York scene in the early 80s. With his operatic vocals and alien-like appearance, Klaus Nomi stretched the boundaries of the New Wave and became an unforgettable presence, even two decades after passing away as an early victim of AIDS. We will be airing some Klaus Nomi performances as well as clips from “The Nomi Song” – an insightful documentary about the life and times of Klaus Nomi, which was just released as a DVD on Palm Pictures. Man Parrish and Richard Barone, who had worked closely with Klaus, will also be talking about him. Episode 37: Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players
Its New York’s favorite family slideshow players --- The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players! Jason, Tina, and supercutie 10-year old drummer Rachel take over the tube and host New York Noise right out of their East Village apartment. They’ll be talking about the benefits of having a family band and other highly conceptual matters, followed by an acoustic performance from a bed. Episode 36: My Favorite
We know you want some good summer reading recommendations, and surely you want to become more familiar with NYC’s forefront indiepop group “My Favorite”—Now you can have it all! It’s what you’ve always dreamed of! “My Favorite” hosts New York Noise from The New York Public Library while dispensing some fine reading recommendations and talking a bit about the band and their superstardom in Sweden. Episode 35: K.I.D.S. YES!!!
During Take Your Kids to Work Day 2005, New York Noise producer Shirley Braha applied the skills she acquired making $2/hr as a summer camp counselor and schooled the children of the City in the sounds from the underground. As it turns out though, the kids are the ones who give us some schooling. Episode 34: Ben Goldberg’s "Top 40 Me"
Things take a turn for the bizarre as Ben Goldberg of The Leaf Label hosts New York Noise with “Top 40 Me”- a spin-off of Morgan Spurlock’s documentary “Super-Size Me.” Allowing himself to be our guinea pig, Ben Goldberg replaces the indie in his diet with a heavy stream of Top 40. This episode includes a cameo appearance by expert Jay Ruttenberg of Time Out NY’s music staff. Plus music videos by M.I.A., Solvent, Antony & the Johnsons, Caribou and more!

Episode 33: Fischerspooner
Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner of Fischerspooner host this episode right out of their studio space in Williamsburg. Highlights include an intense ice-cream truck encounter and an exploration of hard feelings and soft emotions between Warren & Casey as they battle it out right on camera. Plus music videos by ESG, Sonic Youth, Beck, Matisyahu, Enon, Talking Heads, and more.

Episode 32: The National
This week the Brooklyn rock quintet “The National” gets interviewed by an alligator at the release party for their new album released on Beggars Banquet. We’ll also be airing footage of The National performing at their release party at Williamsburg’s Supreme Trading. Plus music videos straight off the dubbing decks from Bright Eyes, Sleater-Kinney, Annie, The Shout Out Louds + tons more!

Episode 31: Tea Time with Tommy Ramone

Over a really expensive cup of tea, New York Noise is graced with the presence of Tommy Ramone, original drummer of the Ramones! He’ll be talking about “End of the Century,” a truly interesting and insightful documentary on the Ramones, which is currently being released on DVD. Tommy will also be introducing videos as well as answering viewer’s etiquette questions! We’ll be airing classic Ramones videos, “Do You Remember Rock & Roll Radio,” “Rock & Roll High School” and “I Wanna Be Sedated,” and clips from the DVD. Plus videos by Fischerspooner, My Favorite, Brazilian Girls, and some other great new videos!

Episode 30: The Animal Collective Eats Cupcakes
The votes are in: Cupcakes are awesome, and NYC's Animal Collective are too! Put 'em together and who knows what could happen! At Sugar Sweet Sunshine, a bakery in the Lower East Side, i interviewed this psych-folk band over a bakers dozen. Hear them talk about the transition from playing in their basements in Baltimore (much to the bewilderment of their parents), to selling out shows at the Bowery Ballroom in New York. Episode 29: Steve the Whistler
When Steve Herbst began whistling as a child in Brooklyn, little did he know he would one day become the International Whistling Champion. At the Central Park Zoo, we interviewed Steve about his fight to the top. While Steve has a broad whistling repertoire of Broadway & classical songs, he was so kind as to grace us with whistled renditions of the musical stylings of Adam Green, M.I.A., My Favorite, The Postal Service, Jens Lekman and more. We'll also air non-whistled renditions by said bands, plus new videos by The National, Dirty Projectors, Aberfeldy and more.

Episode 28: 33hz Cook a Turducken

The dashing men of NYC's 33hz host an episode of New York Noise while preparing the classiest of dinners, which includes the southern delicacy known as a turducken- a chicken stuffed in a duck stuffed inside a turkey. Mmmmm....Delicious? Dont miss this! Music videos by Regina Spektor, Annie, Emiliana Torrini, Sonic Youth, Supersystem and more, plus a video of 33hz which includes footage of them performing at Joe's Pub and at NYC TV's Winter launch event in February. Episode 27: Jason Forrest
When WFMU DJ and musician Jason Forrest AKA Donna Summer returned to New York to play at the Knitting Factory and throw a party for a release on his new label, Cock Rock Disco, we made sure to catch up with him. At Greenpoint’s Luncheonette Fountain we interviewed Jason about his music, his alter ego, working in a sub sandwich shop, and gardening tips. Music videos from Beck, LCD Soundsystem, Royksopp, Kings of Convenience and more, plus video clips of Jason from his Knitting Factory show by Corey Smith, and the video for Jason Foresst’s “Steppin Out” directed by Jon Watts.
