This notice is an update to NYCHA Section 8 Voucher holders whose vouchers were withdrawn in December 2009. A special collaboration between the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), NYCHA, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), and the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR), has created the opportunity for the first 1,500 prioritized people to apply for subsidy.
Notices were mailed to eligible families around July 15 inviting families to apply for the Section 8 program at HPD or a similar but temporary HOME Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) program also at HPD (once vouchers are available, these will be switched to Section 8. This is the first part of a plan to address the immediate needs for all the households whose vouchers were withdrawn in December 2009.
If your voucher was withdrawn and if you:
- received a notice from HPD, you must respond to that notice to be eligible for the subsidy offered by HPD.
- received a notice from NYCHA, we will contact you when vouchers become available
- did not receive a notice from HPD or NYCHA, you must contact NYCHA’s customer service center to update your address to ensure you do not miss the opportunity to apply.
NYCHA remains committed to assist your family during this difficult time.
