Established in 1970, the New York City Housing Authority Journal is a 16-page, bilingual, tabloid newspaper that is published 11 times a year by the New York City Housing Authority's Department of Communications. The Journal provides a round-up of Authority-wide news and events, with a focus on residents. Each issue includes a column by the Housing Authority Chairman and an article on NYCHA's Green Agenda. Other ongoing features include columns by the Office of Public and Private Partnerships, Housing Bureau Police Chief, Fire Department of New York and New York City Department of Education. A list of former residents who have been excluded from public housing appears in each issue in the "NYCHA Not Wanted List."
The Journal is hand-delivered to each of the 178,000 apartments in NYCHA’s 334 public housing developments throughout the five boroughs. It also is distributed to more than 10,000 NYCHA employees, and mailed to elected officials and community leaders.
