NYCHA 75 Years Keeping the Promise

Capital Needs Assessment Survey

An accurate and comprehensive architectural and structural survey of NYCHA’s portfolio of developments is crucial to help NYCHA target funding. NYCHA has awarded a contract to Parsons Brinckerhoff, an architectural and engineering firm, to document, assess and prioritize the capital improvement needs of every housing development and non-residential facility owned by NYCHA. In addition to highlighting immediate repair needs, the survey will include life-cycle projections of all major building systems to allow for detailed scheduling of planned future replacement. The first phase of the survey, which was completed in January 2006, defined that $6.73 billion is needed over the next five years for capital improvements to NYCHA properties throughout the five boroughs. Parsons Brinckerhoff is contracted to continue its assessment of NYCHA's capital improvement needs through 2010.
