All 1,380 apartments at two Bronx
developments, Mill Brook Houses and Mill Brook Extension. will get new closet
doors under a $2,017,954 contract recently awarded by the Board of the New York
City Housing Authority (NYCHA).
The contract calls for replacing 7,117
closet doors of various sizes. Some 2,563 new swing doors will be installed in
existing doorframes; 3,008 new swing doors will be installed with new frames,
and 1,294 plastic laminated sliding doors will replace older doors.
"This improvement will bring these
apartments up to modern construction standards by enhancing the apartments with
neater, more efficient storage space," NYCHA Chairman Tino Hernandez
said.
The contract was awarded to Prestige
General Construction Corp. and is expected to take one year to complete once
work starts.
Mill Brook Houses has 1,255
apartments in nine, 16-story buildings housing some 3,026 residents. The
12.38-acre complex was completed May 31, 1959 and is between East 135th and East
137th Streets, Brook and Cypress Avenues. Mill Brook Extension is a 16-story
building completed January 312, 1962. The .52-acre complex is on Cypress Avenue
between East 135th and East 137th Streets.
