New Shelter Allowance Bill Brings
Much Needed Funds to NYCHA

The bill, which was signed into law by Governor Eliot Spitzer, will mean a maximum of approximately $47 million a year in additional dollars for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) by 2010, when it is fully phased in.

NYCHA is replacing more than 50,000 incandescent light bulbs in Brooklyn developments with energy efficient Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs). Helping residents make the switch will reduce the demand for electricity during the hottest summer months, and save money.
