Webster fast became a champion of American nationalism. He was a strong opponent of the war of 1812 because it had crippled New England's shipping industry. When New England switched to manufacturing to replace the lost shipping business, Webster fought for high-tariffs to prevent competition from imports. He twice served as Secretary of State (1841-43 and 1850-52). Webster Houses is in the Bronx. SITE STATISTICS AND DESCRIPTION: Daniel Webster Houses in the Bronx has five 21-story buildings with 605 apartments housing an estimated 1,679 residents. The 4.53-acre complex was completed September 30, 1965 and is between East 168th and East 169th Streets, Park and Webster Avenues. |  |
