NAMED AFTER: EDMUND BORGIA BUTLER (1896 - 1956) – The 4th Chairman of NYCHA, Butler was an attorney. He was a vigorous and sometimes controversial supporter of low-cost public housing. In particular, he fought for affordable housing for veterans during the housing shortage following WW II. He was a full professor at Fordham University Law School when he was appointed to NYCHA by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia in 1942. He resigned in 1947. Butler Houses is in the Bronx.
