The New York City Housing Authority Law Department is responsible for all of the legal affairs of the Housing Authority. The Law Department operates under the direction of its General Counsel, and is comprised of five major divisions, Torts, Housing Litigation, Civil Litigation, Corporate, and Real Estate and Economic Development.
Service of Process
Pursuant to Rule 318 of the New York Civil Practice Law and Rules, the Housing Authority has designated its General Counsel as its agent for service of process. Notices of Claim, summonses, subpoenas, and other legal process may be served on business days between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 250 Broadway, 9th Floor, Manhattan.
Payment of Fees
All fees that are required to be paid when serving legal process, such as subpoena fees, must be paid in advance at the Housing Authority's Central Office Cash Control Receiving Center (“Cashier”) located on the 6th Floor at 90 Church Street, Manhattan. The Cashier is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Service of process requiring the payment of a fee willnot be accepted unless accompanied by a receipt for the payment of the fee issued by the Cashier.
The Housing Authority has established a hotline for the reporting of violations of the New York City Conflicts of Interest Law, and for the use of employees seeking information regarding their responsibilities under the law. The number is 212-306-4000. Callers may remain anonymous, if desired.
