    We will refer you to appropriate employment opportunities. In addition we will assist you in your job search by providing pre-employment workshops in resume writing, interview skills and job search techniques.

  2. What kind of training does RES offer?

    When you attend the mandatory orientation session, our Assessment staff will talk with you about the types of training you are interested in, and then we will refer you to the organization or school that provides the training that best meets your needs.

  3. Does RES have training programs that offer a stipend?

    Yes. Some of the training programs do offer a stipend. Our Career Specialist will discuss the training opportunities with you.

  4. Can RES guarantee me a job after I complete the training?

    No. We can not guarantee you employment after training. Most of the training programs offer employment assistance. Typically at the end of the training, if you have met all of the mandates of the program, the administrators of the training program can help you schedule interviews with employers who want to hire trained graduates.

  5. Can RES help me find a job at the Housing Authority?

    On occasion we do get listings of jobs within the Housing Authority. However you must apply for a job through the NYCHA Human Resources Department. We can assist you with preparing your resume to submit to NYCHA for the job that interests you, as well as inform you of any upcoming Civil Service exams that may lead to a job within the Housing Authority. We will also give you information about job fairs or other hiring opportunities offered by NYCHA or any other City Agency.

  6. Does my name have to be on the lease to be eligible for services?

    The name of the head of household is actually the only name on the lease. However, there is a family verification form that you must obtain from the management office. That form will show the name and social security number of each person registered to live in your NYCHA apartment. Your name and social security number must be on that form and it must be signed by the management office to be eligible for services.

  7. Does RES provide childcare assistance?

    No. NYCHA's Resident Employment Services does not provide childcare, however, we can provide you with information on various childcare assistance resources.

  8. Is there a fee for the training?

    No. RES will refer you to training programs that are free of charge. Our Career Counselors will discuss with you all of the available training options.

  9. Why is it mandatory to attend the orientation session?

    The mandatory orientation session will give you an overview of various programs and services that RES has to offer. During orientation, a math and reading skills test will be given to provide us with a baseline assessment of your abilities. This assessment will help us make appropriate training and employment referrals. After orientation a Career Counselor or Job Developer will be assigned to work with you.

  10. Can non NYCHA residents receive services?

    No. NYCHA only assists Housing residents. This program is owned and operated by NYCHA, and provides an exclusive benefit to NYCHA residents.

  11. Can RES recommend programs for non-residents?

    Yes. Callers who are not NYCHA residents are referred to other programs that will offer them similar services.

  12. Is there an age requirement to receive services?

    You must be at least 17 years old to make the most out of the RES program offerings. Several of our programs have minimum and maximum age limits. Note: If you are younger than 17 years old, a parent or guardian must sign the RES application form.

  13. Why do I have to take a reading and math test when I already have my high school diploma, GED, etc.?

    Some of the jobs and training opportunities require a minimum reading and math level.

  14. What type of documentation do I need to bring to my appointment?

    Please bring in your Birth Certificate; Social Security Card; Housing Composition Letter; High School Diploma, or GED certificate or College Degree or School Transcript; copy of Educational Certificates and Licenses; Drivers License; Photo Identification; and a copy of your resume.
