What to Expect When You Come to RES
Intake- Information session (Orientation):

You will be greeted by our staff and attend an information session where our staff will provide you with an overview of all our services which include referrals for employment, training, GED and ESL classes, apprenticeships, business development, resume workshops, etc.  You will be assigned a specialist who will assist you in achieving your goal.

Prior to your appointment you can download and print the Customer Information Form and have it validated by your Management Office. Please bring the validated application with you to your Orientation Session.

Career Counseling, Job Development, Business Development:

  • Our Career Specialists will help you develop a career plan and attain necessary skills to help you reach your goal. They can refer you for training and educational opportunities.
  • Our Job Developers will help you find employment that matches your skillset.
  • Our Business Development Staff will help you start your own business, or help you to advance an existing business.

Construction and Apprenticeship Opportunities

Section 3/Resident Employment Program (REP)
Section 3 and Resident Employment Program (REP) are two programs that create opportunities for NYCHA residents to work in the construction trades.  These are temporary work assignments at our Developments.

Business Development Assistance
The Business Development Division offers assistance to residents interested in starting, managing or expanding a business enterprise. The Division offers services in the following areas:

  • Developing a sound business concept and assessing its feasibility
  • Developing a business and marketing strategy
  • Writing a business plan
  • Business training through our community partners
  • Financing through our partner institutions
  • Marketing and sales assistance
  • Networking opportunities
  • Obtaining membership in the association of NYCHA business owners

Computer Resource Room

Our Computer Resource Room is available for you to work independently or with assistance to create resumes, perform your job search and complete online employment applications.
You will have access to:

  • computers with Internet access
  • photocopiers and fax machines
  • resource materials
  • a phone to use in your employment and training search

Workforce 1
Resident Employment Services works closely with Workforce 1 Career Centers located in all five boroughs. They offer comprehensive assessments, referrals, and job placements. In Workforce 1's Career Resource Room, you will have access to computers and the internet. Additionally, Workforce 1 can help you prepare and distribute your resume; give you access to fax and photocopying machines; help you improve your typing skills; and tell you about employment opportunities. RES Accomplishments 2007
RES serves hundreds of NYCHA residents every month. RES’s assessments and referrals translate to real jobs for hundreds of residents each year. See the statistics below to see RES’s recent progress.

  • 1382 residents were served from 174 Housing Development citywide
  • RES staff made 2,271 referrals to various training, educational and vocational programs
  • 81 residents were placed in apprenticeship programs
  • 397 jobs were filled by residents
  • The average placement wage was $14.53 per hour
  • 17 hires were reported under Section 3 and 43 under REP
  • 6 new initiatives were exclusively offered to residents
