NYCHA was honored for excellence by HUD’s New York Office of Public Housing at its 2006 Housing Authority Awards Program. Chairman Tino Hernandez was recognized for NYCHA’s overall achievement and his exceptional stewardship, and the Authority was designated a Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS) Award for achieving High Performer Standards in the most recent PHAS evaluations.

Two outstanding programs also received special recognition. Community Operations’ Domestic Violence Aftercare Program was honored with an award for Exemplary Service to Residents for delivery of key transitional services to individuals and families relocated to escape domestic violence. The Development Storeroom Pilot Program of the Supply Chain Operations Department was cited for Exemplary Fiscal Achievements for its initiative to manage material at the development level to minimize costs and improve inventory control. The awards were presented on October 25, 2006, at the New York Hall of Science.
