Luis Ponce was appointed VicePresident for Operations for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) in November 2011. In this capacity, he oversees several support units for NYCHA’s 334 public housing developments, staffed by approximately 1,100 employees. These units include heating operations, environmental field operations, and maintenance of closed-circuit television (CCTV) security cameras. In addition, Mr. Ponce oversees teams of specialized resource advisors for all major skilled trades utilized by NYCHA for the maintenance and preservation of New York’s public housing.
Mr. Ponce began his career at NYCHA over 30 years ago as a City Seasonal Aide and earned promotions through the ranks serving in titles among those he now oversees. These include Emergency Service Aide, Maintenance Worker, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. Mr. Ponce also has held a series of executive-level positions including Deputy Director and Director of the Technical Services Department. Through his intimate knowledge of NYCHA’s operations, Mr. Ponce has helped to formulate and implement procedures that maximize vendor discounts for timely payments; expedite remediation of mold and mildew conditions; and improve the upkeep of NYCHA common spaces, adding to the quality of life for public housing residents.
Mr. Ponce held professional certifications in lead and asbestos abatement and in hazardous waste operations, and is a graduate of NYCHA’s Leadership Academy.
