Joan Lebow was appointed Senior Director of Strategic Marketing at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) in February 2015, after joining as Chief Communications Officer in 2014. As the Authority moves ahead with the launch of its new strategic plan to preserve and maintain public housing in New York City, Ms. Lebow is responsible for generating awareness and support for the initiative. She oversees an effort to shape and convey NYCHA’s long term mission, vision and brand, through targeted communications to internal and external stakeholders.
Prior to joining NYCHA, Ms. Lebow’s career in communications included directing public relations and marketing for a variety of business sectors. She led Communications for Amplify, Inc., an educational technology company; spent 10 years in health care communications including work at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and Atlantic Health System in New Jersey; and led public relations for Local Initiatives Support Corp (LISC), a national non-profit that supports community-based development. In the public sector, Ms. Lebow was deputy press secretary for New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall and worked in the press office of New York City Mayor David Dinkins. Earlier, Ms. Lebow was a journalist, reporting on real estate and New York City for the Wall Street Journal and Crain's New York Business.
Ms. Lebow holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
