Joan Lebow was appointed Chief Communications Officer at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) in May 2014. Ms. Lebow manages NYCHA’s image by reinforcing its mission and message to core stakeholders and strengthening its brand. She is responsible for generating awareness and support for the Authority's initiatives through the media and other strategic communications efforts and oversees NYCHA's resident, employee and external communications.
Prior to joining NYCHA, Ms. Lebow’s career in communications included directing public relations and marketing for a variety of business sectors. She led Communications for Amplify, Inc., an educational technology company; spent 10 years in health care communications including work at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and Atlantic Health System in New Jersey; and led public relations for Local Initiatives Support Corp (LISC), a national non-profit that supports community-based development. In the public sector, Ms. Lebow was deputy press secretary for New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall and worked in the press office of New York City Mayor David Dinkins. Earlier, Ms. Lebow was a journalist, reporting on real estate and New York City for the Wall Street Journal and Crain's New York Business.
Ms. Lebow holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
