Farhan Syed was appointed Vice President for Capital Projects in December 2011. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading and directing the Capital Projects Divisions’ Program Management Units. These units oversee a large portfolio of diverse projects ranging in size to over a $100 million. He also is responsible for the implementation of appropriate processes to ensure that standards for quality construction, on-time performance, and project completion within budget are met.
Before joining NYCHA, Mr. Syed served as a Vice President for HAKS Engineering, a multi-disciplined, full service engineering firm, where he managed over 150 employees and hundreds of millions of dollars in public infrastructure improvement projects. Prior to that he worked for nine years at the New York City Housing Authority where he was responsible for managing various sized construction projects from inception though completion. He also spent 10 years with the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development managing engineering and construction projects in the Tenant Interim Lease program.
Mr. Syed holds a Bachelor of Science degree from NED University of Engineering and Technology and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer.
