AIA Design Award, Architecture

NYCHA’s South Bronx Classic Community Center at Melrose Houses was the recipient of an AIA Design Award for Architecture in 2001. AIA’s Architecture Awards recognize “design excellence across the diversity of work being done, at all scales and in all locations.” This particular award includes “completed architecture of all types of buildings, urban design, restoration, preservation, and the adaptive re-use of older structures.” The community center was designed by NYCHA consultants Agrest & Gandelsonas Architects with Wank Adams Slavin Associates, Inc., and the input of NYCHA staff and residents.
