Frequently Asked Questions

Are there resources available if my credit line has been reduced or cut and I need access to credit?
As part of the Mayor's 18-point plan announced last fall to help New Yorkers weather the economic downturn, the City expanded the NYC Capital Access Revolving Loan Guarantee. The City leveraged its resources to expand the program to include small businesses and nonprofits - in addition to the micro businesses it already covers - that need loans to help them meet payrolls or other pressing expenses. The City has now contracted with a lender who will only consider extending loan guarantees to nonprofits. For more information, call 311.

Do I need to register my organization with the Charities Bureau?
All nonprofit organizations contracting with the City must be registered with the New York State Charities Bureau, unless proper exemption is obtained.  Even if your organization has previously registered with the Charities Bureau, you must ensure that your registration is accurate and up-to-date.

For information regarding the Charities Bureau, registering with the Charities Bureau, and checking the status of your registration, please visit the following website: http://bartlett.oag.state.ny.us/Char_Forms/search_charities.jsp

If you have not previously registered with the Charities Bureau, please read through the Charities Bureau instruction sheet to ensure you follow the correct procedures and verify whether or not you meet the requirements necessary for an exemption.  Instructions are available here: http://www.oag.state.ny.us/bureaus/charities/charities.html

If your organization is exempt from registering with the Charities Bureau, you must obtain a confirmation of exemption letter from the Charities Bureau and submit a copy of it to your contract manager.

If your registration is delayed, or you are having trouble verifying your status, contact the Nonprofit Contract Facilitator by calling 311 or emailing NFPhelp@cityhall.nyc.gov.
