Spider-Man is New York City's Official Ambassador of Volunteerism for youth. Spider-man invites kids (ages 14 and under) in all 5 boroughs to join him in polishing the Big Apple. All you need is a little time, a big heart and a few good ideas.
Who are Little Apple Heroes?
Inspired by Spider-Man, Columbia Pictures and the Mayor's Volunteer Center created the Little Apple Heroes program in 2004 to encourage kids to be super-heroes in their own communities by volunteering. The Little Apple Heroes are groups of kids (ages 14 and under) who work together to help others and make a difference.
The groups can be classrooms, sports teams, theatre groups, after-school programs and so on. Each group must have a team leader who helps organize the events and supervises the children.
How does our group find a project in our area?
If your group does not know of a community service project to work on in your neighborhood, you can visit www.volunteernyc.org/volunteer to find a volunteer event that is close by and fits your group’s interests.
Once we have started volunteering, how does our group become Little Apples Heroes?
By writing to the Mayor’s Volunteer Center! Click on this link to fill out a form, telling the Mayor’s Volunteer Center all about your group, which community service project you have been working on, and how it is going so far. The Mayor's Volunteer Center will send your group a certificate from Spider-Man and the Mayor commemorating the great work done.
In addition, each group who fills in the form will also be added to a raffle for the chance to win many exciting prizes! For more information on the Little Apple Heroes, click here.
