Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities - Protective Services for Adults

Protective Services for Adults provides services to mentally or physically impaired individuals. Caseworkers from PSA conduct home visits to assess a person’s condition and provides any services required to stabilize his or her situation. Services include: financial management, heavy duty cleaning, evaluating medical and home care services and help in obtaining public assistance. PSA investigates referrals from friends, relatives, voluntary agencies, and sections within The Human Resource Administration (HRA), that identify a persons need of protective services. In addition, PSA seeks guardians for persons who require involuntary legal intervention, to ensure the safety of both persons and property.

To be eligible for PSA services a person must:

  1. Have a mental or physical impairment
  2. Be at risk of harm due to unmet essential needs
  3. Have no responsible person willing and able to care for them.
