Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities - Senior Benefits

The Department for the Aging plans, coordinates, and implements programs for senior citizens and their families. DFTA contracts with local community groups to provide group and home delivered meals (Meals on Wheels), senior-center programs, transportation, case management, home care, legal assistance, and other social services.

Other programs include information and referral services; Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE); Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) for the elderly; crime-victim and elder-abuse assistance; Alzheimer’s center and long-term care services; Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP); intergenerational programs; and partnership for eldercare.
