Disability Mentoring Day (DMD)

Disability Mentoring Day 2014

On Wednesday, October 15, 2014, The Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities will once again serve as the local coordinator for National Disability Mentoring Day (DMD).  Beginning in 1999 as a White House initiative, DMD has become a large-scale national and international effort to promote career development for students and job seekers with disabilities through hands-on career exploration, on-site job shadowing and ongoing mentoring.  DMD is nationally hosted by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), the largest cross-disability membership organization in the country.  In 2013, DMD connected nearly 16,500 students and job seekers with disabilities with thousands of employers in more than 250 locations across all 50 states.

Local corporate leaders, as well as students and jobseekers with disabilities, are encouraged to get involved in this year’s activities in New York City.
