About ADA25NYC

2015 marks the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This groundbreaking legislation is pivotal in ensuring access and inclusion for people with disabilities. To honor the amazing achievement of the disability rights movement and energize its bright future, the City of New York is proud to announce ADA25NYC.

The Big Apple leads the United States and the world in so many fields, and this historic initiative is no exception. We're going to host the biggest celebration in the nation this summer and throughout 2015. We'll inspire New Yorkers to set - and expect - a new standard for accessibility in our own city, the nation, and beyond.

ADA25NYC is a collaborative campaign of the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) under the leadership of Commissioner Victor Calise, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) under the leadership of Commissioner Tom Finkelpearl, and dozens of prominent organizations dedicated to serving individuals with disabilities, as well as cultural institutions, sports and recreational facilities, and community groups from all corners of the NYC area.

The excitement starts now. Here are just a few of the things to look forward to:

These are just some of the ways ADA25NYC will educate New Yorkers about issues surrounding disability and access, preserve the rich history and promising future of activism and civil rights for people with disabilities, and, most of all, celebrate the ADA on its 25th anniversary.

Become a part of the action! Help make New York the most welcoming, accessible, and inclusive city on the planet for people of all abilities.
