Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular 2012

This year, the Macy's 4th of July fireworks show will display along the Hudson River. The show starts at approximately 9:00 pm.

Viewing Information
The fireworks may be viewed from any area with an unobstructed view of the sky above the Hudson River. For the best views, head to 12th Avenue below W. 59th Street at the following access points along 11th Avenue:

  • W. 24th Street
  • W. 26th, 28th, 29th, Streets
  • W. 33rd & 34th Streets
  • W. 40th through 44th Streets
  • W. 47th Street
  • W. 49th through 52nd Streets
  • W. 54th through 57th Streets

The following are NOT viewing areas for the 2012 show:

  • East River
  • Battery Park
  • Battery Park City
  • All Hudson River Piers (except limited access to Piers 54 and 84)
  • Hudson River Park promenade between W. Houston and 59th Street
  • Hudson River Park Bike Path between W. Houston and 59th Street

Transportation Information
Public parking will not be available in the area. Please leave your car at home. Use public transportation and purchase round-trip fare in advance to avoid long lines after the fireworks. MTA MetroCards allow for free transfer to bus service (some exceptions apply).

NYC Transit will run increased subway service before and after the fireworks. Bus service near the fireworks will be rerouted, with extra trips available after the event. Attendees should check for exact times. Visit the MTA website for more information.

Street Closures
From 4:30 pm on July 4th to 12:00 am on July 5th, the following streets will be closed:

  • (9A) West Street/11th Avenue/12th Avenue from West 22nd Street to West 59th Street
  • West 22nd Street to West 59th Street between 11th Avenue to 12th Avenue (9A)

Additional closures:

  • West 23rd Street between 10th Avenue and 11th Avenue will be closed starting at 2:00 pm to approximately midnight.
  • Northbound Westside Highway from 23rd Street to 57th Street from 4:30 p.m. until 1 a.m., July 5th, or until cleanup is complete.

Drivers are advised to use public transportation and avoid the following locations between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m.

  • Southbound Westside Highway from 79th Street to 42nd Street from 4:30 p.m. until 1 a.m., July 5th, or until cleanup is complete.
  • Southbound Westside Highway from 42nd Street to 23rd street from 4:30 p.m. until 1 a.m., July 5th, or until cleanup is complete.

Staten Island Ferry
Staten Island Ferry service will operate on a holiday schedule on Wednesday, July 4. Service will be provided every 30 minutes from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm and again from 10:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Service will be suspended from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm due to fireworks festivities. Hourly service will resume at 11:00 pm.

  • A, C E, L - To 14th Street & 8th Avenue
  • E, C - To 23rd Street & 8th Avenue
  • A, C, E - To 34th Street & 8th Avenue
  • A, E - To 42nd Street & 8th Avenue
  • 1, 2, 3, N, R, Q, S, 7 - To 42nd Street - Times Square
  • E, C - To 50th Street & 8th Avenue
  • A, C. D, 1 - To 59th Street - Columbus Circle

Bus Routes

  • Uptown - M11 (via 10th Avenue), M10 (via Central Park West to 59th Street), M20 (via 8th Avenue)
  • Downtown - M11 (via 9th Avenue), M20 (via 7th Avenue)
  • Crosstown - M14, M23, M31, M34, M42, M57

Emergency Medical Facilities
City Emergency Medical Services and health services personnel will be positioned in the viewing area. For further assistance, contact a police officer in your viewing area.

Blankets, Backpacks, Lawnchairs, Etc.
The Police Department would like to remind spectators that no large backpacks, lawn chairs, lawn blankets, coolers, or alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the viewing area. All restricted items are subject to search and seizure.

Flyovers
In addition to the fireworks at approximately 8 pm on Wednesday evening, the NYPD Aviation Unit helicopters will fly over the Hudson River between the Verrazano Bridge and Pier 86.

Media Parking
Beginning at 3 pm, media parking for "Broadcast Vehicles Only" will be available in the southbound lane of 12th Avenue between W. 23rd to 24th Streets. Trucks will be positioned on the west side of the avenue.
 
Broadcast vehicles must enter via 24th Street and 12th Avenue for security screening. No broadcast vehicle may enter the media parking area until directed to do so by a DCPI representative.
