What is Video Music Box? Video Music Box is the influential and groundbreaking television program Ralph McDaniels produced in New York for WNYC-TV. A six-times-a-week, 60-minute PBS program, McDaniels and Video Music Box shined a light on an under-tapped urban audience and provided a home for emerging and established hip-hop artists to showcase their work.
Recognized by Billboard magazine, Video Music Box has been noted as the Best Local R&B/Hip-Hop Regional show of all time. Additionally, VMB was also voted as one of the Top-10 Greatest Hip Hop TV Moments by VH1 in 2003. By 2005, over 92,000 households per week were regularly viewing VMB. Through PSA announcements broadcast as part of the show, Video Music Box was able to successfully register over 10,000 voters, which earned McDaniels and the show tremendous respect and accolades throughout the City of New York.
