NYC 2.0

 EPISODE 1: THE HACKERS
The bad ones steal. But the good ones (like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, back in the day) invent. Host Rick Karr visits Brooklyn’s NYC Resistor and talks to a hacker and inventor. Karr also turns his own video game console into a home media center, then visits a Manhattan startup that hopes to turn that hack into a multimillion-dollar business.

 EPISODE 2: THE TRAVELERS
New York’s bustling with new technologies that make it easier to get around. Host Rick Karr Profiles the inventor of an app that helps you find parking, then talks with a cyclist who’s building a better bike-share system. He looks under the hood of a new MTA bus tracking system and interviews the Wall Street millionaire who’s funding tech for smarter cities.

EPISODE 3: THE SMARTEST PLACE ON EARTH
Nerds aren’t the only ones inventing new technologies in New York. Host Rick Karr talks with a theater director who built a digital brass band and interviews the music critic who co-created the fundraising site Kickstarter. Also, a visit to an innovative NYU program that churns out new ideas and a visit to Google’s huge NYC facility.

 EPISODE 4: THE PROBLEM SOLVERS
Some inventors in NYC aren’t in it to make a buck, but purely to solve a problem. Host Rick Karr visits green activists who use technology to map every tree in the city and the Columbia prof who’s helping them do it. Also, a SoHo firm whose technology is helping other inventors work smarter, and a chat with Rachel Sterne, the city’s Chief Digital Officer.

 EPISODE 5: THE BORDER
Some of the coolest technology in New York City is being developed by artists. Host Rick Karr visits a Chelsea space where one artist uses computers to analyze rap, then talks with an NYU professor about art and tech. Also, a profile of a Brooklyn artist who’s trying to turn more women on to technology, and a look at the girls robotics team at the Bronx School of Science.

 EPISODE 6: THE MARKETPLACE
A lot of NYC tech brings people together, from buyers and sellers to like-minded individuals. Host Rick Karr looks at Brooklyn’s online craft marketplace, Etsy, and Manhattan’s high-fashion online destination, Ideeli. Plus a look at Meetup and a talk with tech journalist Josh Topolsky, who thinks NYC’s racing ahead of Silicon Valley.

EPISODE 7: DRIVE LIKE A GIRL
New York City's tech sector is hotter than ever; there are more startup firms in the city now than there were at the height of the dot-com boom of the 90s. Every week, host Rick Karr (who reports for PBS and NPR) takes viewers on a fun but informative tour of one aspect of what's fueling the boom, from hackers (the good kind) to shoppers.
