An NEA Jazz Master and contemporary of Miles Davis, Terry possesses one of modern jazz’s most recognizable voices on the trumpet. He has performed with legendary jazz artists including; Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Quincy Jones, and Thelonious Monk. Performances include jazz standards: Perdido, Bye Bye Blackbird, and Terry composition Mumbles.

What a Beautiful Morning. He has performed with jazz legends including Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker, and Max Roach. Legendary jazz musician's Jimmy and Percy Heath presents a master class featuring live performance and conversation with student jazz musicians from around New York City. Saxophonist and bassist brothers team up to perform a variety of original compositions written by Jimmy. Seminal figures from the bop movement, they have performed with legendary jazz artists including, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and the Modern Jazz Quartet. Performances include; ‘Round Midnight, Prince Albert and, Jimmy Heath’s Ginger Bread Boy.

Legendary jazz saxophonist Phil Woods presents a master class featuring live performance and conversation with student jazz musicians from around New York City. Woods, nicknamed “New Bird” from his devotion to the bebop master Charlie “Yardbird” Parker, was also influenced by Benny Carter and Johnny Hodges. Winner of 7-Grammy Awards, he has performed with legendary jazz artists including; Quincy Jones, Thelonious Monk, Ben Webster, Bill Evans, as well as pop musicians including Steely Dan and Billy Joel. Performances include: Goodbye Mr. Evans, This I Dig of You, and Minority.

Legendary jazz harmonica player Toots Thielemans presents a master class featuring live performance and conversation in a master class setting with students from New York City jazz schools. An NEA Jazz Master andconsidered the greatest living master on the chromatic harmonic, Thielemans is also know for his unique style on guitar and as a whistler. He has performed with legendary jazz artists including Benny Goodman, Charlie Parker, George Shearing, Quincy Jones, and Bill Evans, as well as pop artists including Paul Simon, Billy Joel and other. Performances include jazz standards: In Your Own Sweet Way, The Days of Wine and Roses, and Autumn Leaves.



  Cecil Taylor

Legendary jazz pianist Cecil Taylor presents a master class featuring live performance and conversation with student jazz musicians from around New York City. Classically trained, Taylor is generally acknowledged as one the pioneers of free jazz. During the 1950’s and 60’s he collaborated with such seminal musicians as John Coltrane, Steve Lacy, Albert Ayler, and Archie Shepp. For this performance, Taylor combines his percussive approach to piano along with poetry readings.



  Barry Harris

Legendary jazz pianist Barry Harris presents a master class featuring live performance and conversation with student jazz musicians from around New York City. Influenced by the piano stylings of Art Tatum, and Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell, Harris has been a mainstay in the mainstream jazz scene since 1960. He has performed with legends including Cannonball Adderley, Coleman Hawkins, and Dexter Gordon. Performances include jazz standards: A Night in Tunisia, Monk’s Mood, and and Harris’ Who Know’s Just When?
