Short-Form Videos Will Feature Profiles of Local Artists and How-to Projects
February 27, 2012 - Etsy, the Brooklyn-based online marketplace, and NYC Media, the official network of the City of New York, are proud to bring viewers inside the world of local artists and artisans with an inspiring and revealing video series airing on NYC life (Channel 25). The series features Handmade Portraits, the signature program from Etsy.com, providing intimate profiles of the creative people in Etsy’s community; Process, offering a glimpse into the relationship between artists and the materials they use; and How-to, introducing viewers to clever, easy-to-follow projects.
Among the artists to be featured are Brooklyn-based illustrator Sophie Blackall, whose work can currently be seen in subway cars; Kiva Ford, one of the last working scientific glass blowers in the world; the soap-making Brown Rice Family; green designer Katherine Rasmussen of Reiter8, who turns old sailboat sails into pillows, bags and other home accessories; and many others. Viewers will also learn how to make a cocktail umbrella lantern, a light bulb terrarium and mustard.
