• All eight City beaches are free to the public and will remain open through Labor Day, from 10 AM to 6 PM.
• Hurricane Sandy caused severe damage to the City’s beaches. Over the last several months, workers and volunteers have cleared tons of debris in order to reopen the beaches.
• The City also replaced thousands of tons of sand in beaches around the five boroughs, and rebuilt thousands of feet of boardwalk and access ramps to make sure beaches are accessible for all New Yorkers.
• New storm resistant facilities were installed at beaches in Coney Island, Brighton Beach and in the Rockaways – and elevated to protect the structures from future storms.

• Mayor Bloomberg joined Major League Soccer, the New York Yankees and Manchester City to announce the New York City Football Club.
• The New York City Football Club will be the first professional soccer franchise to call the city home in decades.
• Today’s announcement is a great example of how the City is bringing new jobs, more businesses and major investments back to New York.

• The Risk Based Inspection System will help firefighters prioritize the nearly 50,000 full-building fire safety inspections they do throughout the City each year.
• The system takes into account, for example, the height and age of a building, the materials from which it was constructed, whether it has a sprinkler system, its last date of inspection, and other factors, and then helps the FDNY identify buildings at highest risk for fire.
• The system is an example of data making New York City safer. The Risk Based Inspection System helps makes the first line of fire defense in our city - fire safety inspections - even stronger.

• New York City leads the nation with more than $20 billion in investments to protect drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.
• The Gowanus Canal project includes an upgrade to a wastewater pump station and an upgrade to the tunnel.
• The Department of Environmental Protection made improvements which protect the facility from future storms.

• The Federal relief funds will allow the City to launch initiatives and extend relief to more New Yorkers in need – particularly home owners and small businesses with extensive damages and expenses. Visit NYC Recovery to learn more about the City’s recovery efforts.

• Norwegian Cruise line is the biggest cruise ship ever to dock in New York City.
• New York is the #1 cruise ship port in the Northeast. Over the past four years, the number of cruise ship passengers embarking here has grown by 32%.
• 52 million people visited New York City last year. New York’s tourism industry has had a $55.3 billion impact on the economy and created thousands more new jobs.

Our internships are aimed at college and graduate students, can be semester or year-long commitments, and are non-salaried.
