Installation of Trunk Water Mains in Lafayette St.

The following is the anticipated construction work schedule from Sat.-Fri. 01/21/12 through 01/27/12

SATURDAY JANUARY 21, 2012 WORK HOURS: 8:00AM-4:30PM
LOCATION 1: INTERSECTION OF BOWERY AND E. 4TH ST.
OPERATION: CON ED UTILITY LAYOUT WORK
IMPACT: W. 4TH ST BETWEEN BROADWAY AND MERCER ST. WILL BE CLOSED AT VARIOUS TIMES ON A DAILY BASIS WHEN THE CONTRACTOR IS WORKING AT THAT LOCATION ANYWHERE FROM 7:00AM – 3:30PM (SOME DAYS UNTIL 5:30PM). THESE CLOSURES ARE NECESSARY TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATE CONSTRUCTION CONCERNS. THE STREET WILL BE REOPENED AT THE END OF EACH WORKING DAY

SUNDAY OCTOBER 2, 2011 WORK HOURS: 9:00AM-5:00PM
NO WORK SCHEDULED

MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: WORK HOURS AT ALL LOCATIONS FROM 7:00AM- 3:30PM. (IF REQUIRED THE CONTRACTOR IS PERMITTED TO WORK UNTIL 6:00PM)
LOCATION: W. 4TH ST. BETWEEN BROADWAY AND MERCER ST.
OPERATION: FIELD CONSTRUCT CHAMBER
IMPACT: E. 4TH ST BETWEEN BOWERY AND LAFAYETTE ST. WILL BE CLOSED AT VARIOUS TIMES ON A DAILY BASIS WHEN THE CONTRACTOR IS WORKING AT THAT LOCATION ANYWHERE FROM 7:00AM – 3:30PM (SOME DAYS UNTIL 5:30PM). THESE CLOSURES ARE NECESSARY TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATE CONSTRUCTION CONCERNS. THE STREET WILL BE REOPENED AT THE END OF EACH WORKING DAY

OPERATION: FIELD CONSTRUCT WATER MAIN MANHOLESAND CHAMBERS
INSTALL 36” WATER MAINPIPE
IMPACT: W. 4TH ST BETWEEN BROADWAY AND MERCER ST. WILL BE CLOSED AT VARIOUS TIMES ON A DAILY BASIS WHEN THE CONTRACTOR IS WORKING AT THAT LOCATION ANYWHERE FROM 7:00AM – 3:30PM (SOME DAYS UNTIL 5:30PM). THESE CLOSURES ARE NECESSARY TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATE CONSTRUCTION CONCERNS. THE STREET WILL BE REOPENED AT THE END OF EACH WORKING DAY

LOCATION: COOPER SQ/BOWERY BETWEEN E. 4TH AND E. 6TH ST.
OPERATION: IMPLEMENT TRAFFIC PATTERN SWITCH
IMPACT: TWO NORTH AND SOUTHBOUND TRAVEL LANES ON COOPER SQ. WILL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES.
ONE SOUTHBOUND TRAVEL LANE WILL BE MAINTAINED ON THE WEST SIDE OF COOPER SQ.
CURBSIDE PARKING WILL TEMPORARILY BE ELIMINATED ON EITHER SIDE OF THE STREET. “NO STANDING ANYTIME” SIGNS ARE INSTALLED TO INFORM MOTORISTS OF THESE CHANGES.
THE EAST/WEST PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK AT E. 5TH ST. WILL BE CLOSED.

RECONSTRUCTION OF WATER MAINS IN THE LAFAYETTE ST. AREA

DDC CONTINUES WORK ON THE LAFAYETTE ST. PROJECT
The City of New York Department of Design and Construction (NYC DDC) continues work on the Lafayette St. Area Water Main Project. Please see details below regarding work completed and scheduled.

WORK COMPLETED: NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2011
Excavation and Installation of the 48" and 36" Trunk Water Mains:
* W. 4th St. between Mercer St. and Broadway
Completed the installation of the east side of the 30" Trunk Water Main (Shaft # 19):
* Cooper Sq. between E. 5th St. and E. 6th St.
Backfilled the 36" Round About:
* Cooper Sq. between E. 5th St. and E. 6th St.
Installation of a 24" round about water main and a 20" MJ Flange valve:
* Intersection of Bowery and E. 4th St.
Installation for water main chamber structures (Blow-off Manhole) and backfilling
* E. 4th St. between Bowery and Lafayette St.

SCHEDULED WORK: JANUARY /FEBRUARY 2012
Work hours: Monday through Friday: 7:00am- 3:30pm (permitted to work until 6:00pm)
SATURDAY: Work shift from 8:00am-4:30pm
SUNDAY: Work shift from 9:00am-5:30pm
Remove existing and replace with new 30" Trunk Water Main along the westerly side of Water Shaft #19:
* Cooper Sq. between E. 5th St. and E. 6th St.
Install roof slab for insulated valve chamber and backfilling of the easterly trench for the 30" Trunk Water Main
* Cooper Sq. between E. 5th St. and E. 6th St.
Installation of Chute connection and Catch Basin:
* On west side of intersection of Bowery and E. 4th St.
Installation of 36" Round About pipe:
* From W. 4th around to Broadway
6" DIP connection between valve manhole and blow off manhole and 12" DIP connection between blow off manhole and sewer manhole
* E. 4th St. between Broadway and Lafayette St.
Construction of 36" Butterfly Valve Chamber and
36" insulated joint chamber
Installation of 12" Distribution Water Main
* E/W. 4th St. between Mercer St. and Broadway
Backfilling of the 48" and 36" Trunk Water Main trench:
* W. 4th St. between Mercer St. and Broadway

HOLIDAY EMBARGO:
The special Holiday Construction Embargo that went into effect for the period of Friday, November 18, 2011 from 6:00AM to 11:59PM and again from Monday, November 21, 2011 from 6:00AM through Monday, January 2, 2012 11:59PM has ended. Work will now resume.

E. 4TH ST. STREET CLOSURES:
E. 4th Street between Bowery and Lafayette Street
E. 4th Street between Lafayette Street and Broadway
E. 4th Street between Broadway and Mercer Street
The above stated segments of E 4th St. remain closed on a daily basis. Vehicular traffic will be prohibited during working hours Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm (5:30 if necessary.) Some Saturdays 8:00am-4:30pm. Local deliveries will be allowed access. The street will be reopened at the end of each work day. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
