Forms

Request a Plaque, Street Sign, or Marker
Plaques, street signs, and markers identify the City's landmarks and historic districts, and serve not only as an architecture and history guide, but also as a means to notify owners that their property is subject to LPC regulations.  The New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation provides support for these signage programs, which are administered by LPC and the Department of Transportation.

Cast bronze plaques are used to identify individual landmarks.
  • Owners are responsible for installation.
  • An LPC permit is required for plaque installation. Do not install a plaque unless you have an LPC permit.
  • A photo of the plaque's proposed location and method of installation must be submitted with a standard LPC application form.
  • LPC's staff will help draft plaque text.
  • Cast bronze plaques for individually designated landmark buildings cost $1,500.
Terra cotta street signs feature the name of the street in white letters, and are topped by a black strip that identifies the historic district.
  • Requests must include a detailed map of the historic district showing the proposed location of street signs.
  • The signs are made of aluminum, and serve as replacements for standard green street signs.  Only existing green signage within the boundaries of a district are eligible for replacement.
  • Terra cotta street signs that replace existing green street signs cost $55 each, with partial funding available through the New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation.
Terra cotta historic district markers feature a map and information about the historical and architectural significance of the district.
  • Requests must include a detailed map of the historic district showing the proposed location of markers.
  • Terra cotta historic district markers cost up to $1000 per piece.
