Meet the Commissioners

Elizabeth Ryan

Elizabeth (Libby) Ryan was appointed to the Commission in 2004, and serves as the panel’s realtor and is one of its Brooklyn representatives. She is a Senior Vice President with Brown Harris Stevens Inc., a leading New York City real estate firm. For 16 years Commissioner Ryan has represented sellers and buyers of property in the historic districts of Brooklyn – Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and others. Prior to her career in real estate, Libby worked at Sanford C. Bernstein and Co., Fred S. James and Co., and served as president of Project Reach Youth in Brooklyn.

Commissioner Ryan also serves as vice president of the board of directors of The Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center, a not-for-profit organization that buys and rehabilitates historic commercial buildings. She is also a member of the board of directors at the Prospect Park Alliance and the Oratory Church of S. Boniface in Downtown Brooklyn.

A graduate of Muhlenberg College, Commissioner Ryan holds a master’s of business administration from Cornell University. She was born and raised in Binghamton, New York and has resided in New York City since 1978. She lives in the Park Slope Historic District.
