Artist & Chairman El Museo del Barrio
Tony Bechara is a fine artist whose public and private artworks have been exhibited in many cities and in major museums. His solo exhibitions have been shown in New York, Washington, Miami, San Juan, Lima, Mexico and Munich. He has participated in group exhibitions at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, the Whitney Biennial, Boulder Fine Arts, P.S.1, Artist Space, and the Museum of Latin American Art in California.
Mr. Bechara is the recipient of a Fellowship of the National Endowment for the Arts and public commissions from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cooper Square Development Corporation of New York City. In 2006, the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) awarded him the MOLAA Art Prize and El Diario La Prensa named him "Latino of the Year."
During his multi-faceted career, Mr. Bechara has been a printmaker, a lecturer at Rutgers University and a member of several boards. He is now a Trustee of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Studio in a School, and El Museo del Barrio.
Mr. Bechara received a B.A. from Georgetown University and did coursework at Georgetown Law School, New York University Graduate School of International Relations, the Sorbonne in Paris, and the School of Visual Arts, New York.
