Recently, the New York City Law Department has become aware of a number of calls that have been made to individuals throughout the country by callers claiming to be associated with the New York City Law Department or "New York Law Department." In these calls, the callers will demand money and/or make threats about debts the persons receiving the calls allegedly owe. THESE CALLS ARE NOT COMING FROM OR AUTHORIZED BY THE NEW YORK CITY LAW DEPARTMENT.

If you have received a call like this please report it, by email, to mhiggins@law.nyc.gov and fully describe the details of the call including any names or phone numbers the caller may have given you. DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY TO ANYONE REPRESENTING THEMSELVES AS AFFILIATED WITH THE NEW YORK CITY LAW DEPARTMENT WHO CONTACTS YOU IN THIS MANNER. The legitimacy of any communication from this office can be confirmed by sending an email to the address listed above. Thank you.
