I joined the Family Court Division of the Law Department in July of 2006. Suffices to say that it was one of the best decisions I have made. Within the few months that I have been here, I have already begun two trials, numerous court appearances almost daily and have a caseload of over 80 cases, all of which I have full responsibility over. The experience I have gained thus far is incredible and it is all hands on training and learning. I was not treated as a student anymore but was given all the responsibilities of a full fledged attorney from the beginning. My primary responsibility is that of a Juvenile Prosecutor. As a Juvenile Prosecutor, my focus and goal is to protect the safety of the community by prosecuting crimes, which are committed by juveniles, coupled with balancing the interests of the juvenile. It is the latter part of my responsibility as a Juvenile Prosecutor that makes my job different than that of a District Attorney. It is also that specific goal of a Juvenile Prosecutor that allows me to get involved with trying to help juvenile to become a contributing and integral member of society. I can say without a doubt that the Law Department and especially the Family Court Division is a fulfilling and extremely exciting place to work. You get immense satisfaction everyday from the fact that this job gives you a chance to contribute to society and affect the lives of others for what hopefully is the better.
