The Law Department is an accredited Continuing Legal Education provider, offering live and video courses to our own attorneys and to other attorneys working in City government. These courses are taught by members of the Law Department staff, as well as law professors and other prominent practitioners. Additionally, individual divisions conduct courses related to their practice area. Our attorneys also may attend courses offered by outside providers such as the Practising Law Institute and the New York City Bar Association.
To help our newest Assistant Corporation Counsels (ACC's) make the transition from law school to law practice, the Law Department provides formal and informal training and support. All new ACC's participate in a week-long orientation program (The ABC's for ACC's), during which they are introduced to the structure of New York City government and the nuts and bolts of practicing in state and federal court. New ACC's also receive training specific to their practice area, and have the opportunity to participate in our week-long civil trial advocacy program in their first or second year.
The Law Department also coordinates a Brown Bag Lunch series featuring presentations by Law Department attorneys on a variety of interesting topics.
